Wedding favours are small presents generally left on the wedding breakfast tables as a gesture of appreciation to guests from the bride and groom during a wedding ceremony or a wedding reception.
The tradition of giving wedding favours is an old one. The first wedding favours were given by European aristocrats. At the time sugar was very expensive and so the contents of the boxes that held the "favours" were often sugar cubes. Clearly sugar has now become a more widely used and cheaper commodity and so the content of favours has changed. Sugared almonds are the traditional choice for wedding favours but now a huge array of different favour options exist.
